Wage Garnishments

From time to time, an employer receives a wage garnishment notice, either court-ordered or through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). These garnishments or wage attachments could be through a child support order, creditor debt collection, and IRS levies for unpaid taxes. Regardless of the type of deduction, it is required by law for the employer to take these amounts from the employee’s wages and forward them to the proper recipient. All of this information (the amounts and recipient) is provided in the order. These payments must be deducted and made on a routine and timely basis.
